This video has some useful types and tractor/ backhoe operating techniques that any operator could find helpful. Operating impressions of using the Kubota M62 some of its features, and commentary as we install drainage lines, otherwise known as tiling to capture some pesky spring water that was mucking up my parking lot and flooding the front of my shop. In the process some unconventional materials were used to be thrifty… yet still effective. Also stacked some 2 ton concrete blocks with M62 and finished this project plate compacting an otherwise loose rutty gravel parking lot. Rain, snow or shine… it got done.
Did ya know? Why is installing drainage referred to as tiling? Doesn’t that bring up images in your mind of remodeling the bathroom shower or putting backsplash in the kitchen?
The saying “tiling a field” originated from the original piping material used before the advent of plastic pipes like solid ABS or corrugated flexible ADS. The pipes were ceramic like Mediterranean roof shingles. That clay brownish orange color, while heavy, they were also somewhat brittle when easily crushed by farm equipment if not buried deep enough. Also not tight fitting enough to keep tree roots from penetrating the bell ends of pipe sections and filling the drainage cavern with millions of roots in short order, thus plugging the drainage system.
