On April 29, 2023, War Horse founder Thomas Brennan became the first enlisted Marine veteran to be recognized by the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation with the Gen. John A. Lejeune Award for Exemplary Leadership. Past recipients include Secretaries James Mattis and Condoleeza Rice, Sen. John Glenn, and Pres. George H. W. Bush.
