We've all seen how dangerous these high powered motorcycles can be, but this was a first for me. Tom Luke of South Beloit, Ill., piloting his very powerful Kawasaki ZX-14 had master link let loose on the top end of what was no doubtfully a 7 second pass. The aftermath was a scattering of parts destroying the chainguard, tail section, chain and tire hugger. All the safety parts did their job keeping Tom from being hit with the chain plus his experience and skill also came into play as well.
Tom was out licensing the week before and was back to get in some last day of the season rips. With high temps in the upper 50's and 15mph headwinds he knew things could get sketchy, but even with a conservative tune and just one 60 shot kit of nitrous he still click off an impressive 8.04 @ 161.50 mph. The 2012 gen 2 which was bought new by Tom, is powered by a built 1510cc engine by Bill Deshong of Port-Tech and tuned by Nathan Hollingsworth. The bike features a Holley HP, Hardcore race bodywork, swingarm, subframe and fuel cell. Front and rear suspension are by Marcus McBain with BST'S (with ceramic wheel bearings), a MTC Gen 2 clutch, a Steven Chopaleg (VooDoo) big tube header, and 3 nitrous kits (2 through the Holley and a 60 shot on the button). Tom's rad looking helmet was painted by Monster Ink. The bike has been in the 7's before on just one kit, so you can just imagine when the 3 kits are used Tom may want to change the name to the GREEN MONSTER! #ninja #fail #zx14r
