Lasagna is an Italian dish and Garfield's favorite food. It was first shown in the July 15th, 1978, comic strip, where Garfield described lasagna as "nature's most perfect food."

Garfield was born on June 19, 1978, in the kitchen of Mamma Leoni's Italian Restaurant. As a kitten, he develops a taste for lasagna, which becomes his favorite food. Because of his large appetite, the owner of Mamma Leoni's sold Garfield to a pet shop, where he was bought by Jon Arbuckle.
