How can each of us contribute to preventing post-partum depression? Chandra Maracle has spent her entire career in nutrition, but it took having five children to realize the people who most need nourishment are new mothers. In this talk, Chandra shares her story of how her easiest pregnancies were the most difficult post-partum and explains how feeding new mothers is preventative healthcare. Chandra Maracle is the founder of Kakhwa’on:we/Real People Eat Real Food, an organization dedicated to exploring the intersection of food, art, people, language and land from an Indigenous perspective. For Chandra, food is more than what’s on the plate; it’s the intersection of all the things that make us human. She is also the co-founder and Nutrition Coordinator of the Everlasting Tree School, a holistic school grounded in Kanyen’keha (Mohawk Language). This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
