Like Ayra Starr, Tiwa Savage, and Tems, the Minneapolis native blends R&B, Afrobeats, soul - calling the intersection of all three “my sweet spot.” Its introspective vibe comes from an honest recollection of a down evening when the singer, who lives with the mood disorder Cyclothymia, had imbibed a bit and dipped out of a social gathering to her studio. There she drove around the Web, found a gorgeous instrumental by Mage The Producer, and let her lyrical talends flow. “I closed my eyes and it just came out really,” she said. “I didn’t necessarily write it.
