Being that this is a dungeon, keys are what we need to unlock the path deeper into this place. The Island Master won't make these things easy for us to reach, however, for that would ruin the little game he's set up for us to stumble through. He clearly doesn't want to crush us immediately else he's of put the most dangerous of foes right at the start to turn the party into a fine paste.

Why play the game at all, though? Is is boredom that drives the island master or is he just sadistic?

All that aside, we need to keep our eyes open for more secrets as we explore this ancient place. Every one we find will give us more goodies that increase our chances of survival that much more.
