Darel Dieringer outduels Dave MacDonald to win the 1963 NASCAR Golden State 400 at Riverside International Raceway. MacDonald (92 laps), Dieringer (35) & Lorenzen (21) were the only drivers to lead in this race and MacDonald had the iconic Wood Bros 21 Ford out front on lap 92 when he lost 3rd gear and had to run the rest of the way with two gears. He'd built a sizable lead to that point but Dieringer slowly reeled him in and took the lead for good on lap 119. MacDonald's teammate Marvin Panch finished 2nd to gave the Wood Bros their best showing of the year
