The Atlas is available in five trims for the 2023 model year—SE, SE w/ Technology, SEL, SEL R-Line Black, and SEL Premium R-Line. For 2023, SE w/ Technology models add the 10.25-inch fully configurable Volkswagen Digital Cockpit Pro.

MSRP for the 2023 Atlas 2.0-liter starts at $35,150 for the SE with front-wheel drive and $37,050 for the SE with 4Motion all-wheel drive. The powerful VR6 engine is available on the Atlas SE w/ Technology models and above, starting at $41,070 for front-wheel-drive models and $42,970 for 4Motion models. Destination is $1,295.

Exterior
The Atlas makes a style statement from the front. The front fascia features a bold three-bar grille, which extends into the front light signature, creating a sophisticated presence. Headlight designs feature standard full-LED lighting, including low beams, high beams, Daytime Running Lights (DRLs); taillights are LEDs as well. SEL models and above add standard 900-lumen LED headlights with Volkswagen’s Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS). Automatic headlamps and rain-sensing windshield wipers are standard across the lineup. SEL R-Line Black trims receive black headlights and taillights, along with black front and rear fascia, door molding, mirror caps, and roof rails.



The sportier R-Line® trims add R-Line badging, unique front and rear bumpers that incorporate stylish air intakes at the front and a diffusor in glossy black paint at the rear, as well as side skirts, emphasizing the premium profile of the Atlas.

The Atlas lineup features a plethora of wheel options. SE trims feature standard 18-inch machined two-tone aluminum-alloy wheels wrapped in 245/60 all-season tires, while SE w/ Technology models boast standard 20-inch alloy wheels and 255/50 all-season tires, with an optional 20-inch wheel black package. Machined 20-inch wheels with 255/50 all-season tires are standard on SEL models, with R-Line trims receiving matte dark graphite wheels and R-Line Black featuring gloss black wheels. SEL Premium R-Line trims are equipped with 21-inch two-tone machined alloy wheels with265/45 all-season tires.

Engineered from Volkswagen’s award-winning Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) architecture, the 2023 Atlas is larger than any other vehicle in the Volkswagen portfolio, sitting 200.7 inches long, 78.3 inches wide, and 70.1 inches high (VR6 models sit at 70.4 inches high). Despite its size, the Atlas still offers a low coefficient of drag of 0.34 for models equipped with the 2.0-liter engine. For the Atlas models equipped with the VR6 engine, the coefficient of drag is 0.36 for front-wheel-drive models and 0.35 for 4Motion all-wheel-drive models. Atlas 2.0-liter models feature 7.1 inches of ground clearance and departure angles of 18.9 and 21.3 degrees (front/rear). Atlas VR6 models feature 7.5 inches of ground clearance and departure angles of 20.1 and 21.8 degrees (front/rear) when equipped with front-wheel drive and 19.9 and 21.7 degrees (front/rear) when equipped with 4Motion all-wheel drive.

Interior
The interior design of the Atlas is classic Volkswagen—clean and functional, with a premium feel. Driver controls are positioned for optimal ergonomics and usability, and simple, driver-centric displays enhance involvement behind the wheel. The seat position, shifter height, and the spacing between the pedals are all designed for maximum driver comfort. With available contrast stitching on the surfaces and door trim as well as the steering wheel, the 2023 model offers a high-end environment that belies its attainable starting price. Ambient lighting, standard on the Atlas SEL and above, further highlights this upscale character.

Standard second-row bench seating offers a 60/40 split, a 14-degree backrest recline function, and a 7.7-inch sliding range (each side sliding separately). An innovative folding mechanism for the second row offers easy entry and exit room on both sides by enabling the second-row bench to tilt and slide forward, even with child seats in place.
