The story of Jose Altuve is arguably one of the most incredible tales out of the international player signing process; since it was highly unlikely that MLB teams would be willing to sign him, because of his height. Despite that, he became one of the greatest players of his generation.

Many scouts weren’t interested in signing the Houston Astros’ second baseman until he met with then Astros Special Assistant to the GM Alfredo Pedrique. Altuve caught Pedrique’s attention because of his hard work, focus on the game, passion, and talent.

When Pedrique was convinced that he had to give him an opportunity, he called his boss, Tim Purpura, who was the Astros’ GM. Pedrique raved about Altuve and convinced Purpura to sign him.

For the first time, Altuve & Purpura were reunited in front of the cameras to talk about the discovery of one of the greatest baseball players of the past 10 years and one the most amazing ballplayers out of Venezuela.

Jose Altuve has won two World Series, an American League MVP award, three batting titles and he is an eight-time All-Star. He also joined Bobby Abreu as the two Venezuelan-born players with at least 2,000 hits, 400 doubles, 200 homers, 200 stolen bases & 1,000 runs.

He also joined Derek Jeter & Bernie Williams as the only players in MLB history with at least 100 hits, 80 runs, 20 doubles & 20 homers.

Altuve es ganador de dos Series Mundiales, un MVP de la Liga Americana, tres títulos de bateo, ha asistido a 8 Juegos de Estrellas y a la fecha es junto a Bob Abreu, los únicos venezolanos con 2,000 hits, 400 dobles, 200 jonrones, 200 bases robadas y 1,000 anotadas.

Adicionalmente, es también a la fecha, uno de los tres peloteros de toda la historia de la postemporada de las Grandes Ligas, con 100 hits, 80 carreras, 20 dobles y 20 jonrones.
