Don’t you just hate it when your outlets or switches are too deep in the box and you either distort the cover plate when you tighten the screws or have to leave a gap around the switch or plugs!???!!!!

DirtFarmer Jay demonstrates an easy fix to bring up the switch or plug to the right depth so the cover fits correctly and the installation looks professional. With this method, you don’t need a professional, you can JUST DO IT YOURSELF!

The secret is in using spacers. You can use mini-washers, or a readily available product that is inexpensive, and easily usable. If the electrical box is set back deeply in the wall, you may have to use a combination of spacers and longer screws (in the United States, the standard size if 6/32) - also readily available.

DirtFarmer Jay uses spacers like these to accomplish this task:

You can also use the search term of “Gardner-Bender Wall Plate Spacers” to find more sources.

Don’t you just love being able to take care of things like this and JUST DO IT YOURSELF?
