Metal scholars, deconstructing “Ascensionism” can be risky business because the lyrics are painfully metaphorically. They also have lots of religious/spiritual references. And the fact that Sleep Token doesn't say anything about their intentions also adds more mystery and aura to the songs. I just can't help it and I've tried to delve deep into the symbolism of the song. In my opinion, the main contrast and juxtaposition lies with the combination of rational and spiritual, represented by the algorithm and the deity. Everything else will revolve around that idea - diamonds and pentagrams (chemistry and magic), lipstick and red flags, one eye on the door and other on the rail... this song has so many amazing contrasts and vivid imagery, it's one of their most poetic and diverse.
