In this speedrun explained, we break down an Any% speedrun of Subnautica (with glitches and on Survival mode) done by the world record holder, Eclypsed. This run includes glitches and skips, including a movement speed glitch with the Seaglide, an item duplication glitch, and storage exploits. This video serves as explanation of the strategies used by Eclypsed to beat Subnautica in under 30 minutes.

Drooping Stingers normally deal a bunch of damage over a short amount of time if we bump into them, but don’t deal damage if we touch them while Super Seaglide is active. Similarly, there’s a fauna called Crashfish who typically burst out of their hiding places to crash into you and explode, but don’t do that if we have Super Seaglide.

In short, the stingers ignore us because when Super Seaglide is active, the detectCollision variable in the stingers’ code is disabled, meaning collision with the player is never detected so damage is never dealt.

The Crashfish ignore us because when Super Seaglide is active, the player’s rigidbody velocity is set at 0, and Crashfish are triggered by any rigidbody velocity greater than 0, so since ours is stuck at 0, they don’t trigger (Note: the player’s rigidbody is what allows the player to experience physics)
