The story of Fifth Harmony began in 2012 when each of its five members entered a solo audition for the American version of The X Factor. They were brought back by the judges to form a girl group after failing to advance on their own. After placing third in the season finale, Cowell signed them to his record label, Syco Music, one month later. After releasing their first album Reflection in 2015, the group immediately rose to prominence as one of pop music's top acts. Their track "Worth It" received an MTV VMA nomination for Song of Summer, making it the first girl group song to chart in the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 since 2009. Following Camila Cabello's departure in 2016, the remaining performances of the 7/27 tour were completed by the remaining members in 2017, and in August of that year, their self-titled album was released. However, they also declared that this would be their final tour in support of the new LP. They announced in March 2018 that Fifth Harmony would take an indefinite hiatus to work on solo projects. Fans were heartbroken, but the women kept their word, and all four have since produced their own singles.
