Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was total chaos behind the scenes. Any problem that could possibly have been thrown at them, was. From the director, Scott Derrickson quitting, to the entire script being scrapped, to Covid causing delays which caused subsequent delays, which meant overlap with other Marvel projects like WandaVision and Spider-Man filming, which meant the script had to be changed every time one of these projects contradicted what was already written, which led to six weeks worth of reshoots meant none of the actors knew what was going on, especially Rachel McAdams who was promised she’d get to play three Doctor Palmers and only got to play two. But that’s better than no Doctor Palmers like was promised in the first draft of Doctor Strange 2. Benedict Cumberbatch got to play many versions of himself meaning he got many moments of playing opposite himself which meant he was really just playing all by himself. Elizabeth Olsen got to try some new stunts and was surprised Marvel had it in them to still be innovative when it comes to flying. She also got to play opposite herself and was playing all by herself, but that wasn’t the only time she was alone. She never actually met John Krasinski or Patrick Stewart. Essentially, filming was a logistical nightmare, and yet, the cast still found it to be an enjoyable experience thanks to Sam Raimi’s charming personality and strong vision. Let’s take a peek behind the curtain at the multiverse outside the multiverse, shall we?
