Sony Pictures Animation very quickly went from being the laughing stock of the industry to being one of the most innovative and consistent mainstream animation studios in just 5 years. While they've made a lot of bad films, I think it's important to highlight what wasn't working with their previous films and franchises and why their new direction is so refreshing to see.
