When Purdy's decisive, he plays the position really well, he makes big time throws time and time again. When he gets tentative is when he starts to struggle a bit.

As we work our way towards championship weekend, here is my last StudyBall of the week and we are taking a look at the 49ers offense, more specifically Brock Purdy. We all know he has been awesome this year as he has gotten thrust into that situation as a starting quarterback with the injuries there in San Fran and has done nothing but play really good football. He is doing so many different things well. I thought last week, he struggled in some areas with his decisiveness and that could play a part this week. Because when he is decisive, he plays the position really well... when he gets tentative he starts to struggle a bit. When he doesn’t really understand exactly what he is seeing in a particular situation. We are going to take a look at this past weekend. Some of the things he did really well and some of the things he needs to do a bit better this weekend against this Philadelphia Eagles defense if they are going to punch their ticket to the Super Bowl!

A lot of really good things on the tape. I have seen it week in and week out. When he knows where/ when he wants to throw the football and he puts his foot in the ground and he is confident in where he is going, it’s been accurate and he has made big play after another. Certain concepts, he seems to be pretty good at throwing inside around the hashes, which is a big part of this offense and that plays well. The “deep over” he throws really well and that’s a big part of the offense as well. Now when they get into the redzone and they get into those tougher situations where they are asking him to read more concepts across the field, he hasn’t been quite as comfortable in those situations. That’s something to pay attention to in the championship game.

Can the Eagles get ahead? Can they pull San Francisco out of their traditional offense and force them more into a dropback game? If they do, how does Brock respond in those situations? Is he a little more comfortable this week? A little more definitive when the field is split in half and he has to pick sides on which is the best side to read. Is he a little more definitive when he knows what he is looking at so he can get back and do the same things he is doing in other situations?

Plant, throw. See it, understand it pre-snap. Get back, get the ball out of your hands because that is where he is at his best. Again, young quarterback, you don’t expect him to be a finished product. Only problem is, you’re playing against a really good team in the NFC Championship game. He has to be at his best. He has to be doing all the little things right he didn’t do last week if they are going to advance and beat a really good Philly team. #brockpurdy #sanfrancisco49ers #philadelphiaeagles
