Part 2 of installing a switched outlet for the hanging light in the dining room.

I reused some of the house's original wiring for this project. I believe the wire from that era is called 'AC cable'.

The grounding method used in this installation is not typical. The flat piece of bare wire inside is not technically a grounding wire, but rather a bond strip that runs through the entire wire to close any potential gaps in the armored jacket. I connected it directly to the wiring devices because I did not have the proper connector for securing the AC jacket onto the electrical box, which would in turn adequately bond the box.

While not conventional, I stand by this install being satisfactory as all devices are securely bonded, and as shown, multiple testing devices indicate the installed outlet is correct and grounded. With that being said, I do not plan to reuse any more of this cable as it is very difficult to work with and I prefer the full ground wire found in modern cable as opposed to the grounding methods that were used at the time the house was built.
