I literally paid $7.88 for materials to DIY renovate this closet. Almost.

By using the old closet doors for plywood construction material I was able to build customizable shelving and a removable shoe rack basically for free. The shelving and shoe rack are made with rabbet and dado joinery, which is both technically simple to do, and is extremely strong.

I ended up purchasing some iron on edge banding to cover the exposed plywood edges which was technically my only purchase for this project. I was able to re-use the clothing rod, and I also was able to use some old shelf pins I had lying around. I also had existing paint, primer, wood glue, screws, etc left over from past projects.
