There's very little to like and nothing at all to admire about 'Neddy' Smith, yet the man who was once Australia's most dangerous criminal was once something of a celebrity. From his prison cell, 'Neddy' Smith gave such detailed information on police involvement in crime that a special inquiry was launched in Sydney. The main matter before it: Smith's allegation that for 15 years a gang of senior detectives and other police helped him commit armed robberies, payroll jobs and jewellery heists. At the time, it was shaping up as the biggest inquiry into police corruption Australia had seen - and 'Neddy' Smith was the supergrass.
