Stone Cold Steve Austin is one of the most popular superstars to ever grace a WWF / WWE wrestling ring. When Steve Austin made his WWF debut, however, things didn't look so prosperous.
Austin was fired from WCW and he immediately travelled to Paul Heyman's ECW. It was in ECW where fans got a glimpse of what Steve Austin could really be, however his WWF debut was met with uncertainty as Steve transformed himself into "The Ringmaster". Austin didn't like his gimmick, he got inspired after watching a documentary on HBO, but the WWF struggled when coming up with a new name for Steve Austin (Fang McFrost, for example, was suggested by the WWF creative team).

With a little help from his ex-wife Jeanie Clarke, Steve was able to repackage himself as "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, and while the gimmick got off to a pretty unnoteworthy start, the real side of Stone Cold was unleashed during his feud with Bret Hart.
