Recently I came across a weird problem in my Honda Civic LX. I tried to lock the trunk release handle/lever underneath the driver seat with the master key. It did lock, but when I tried to unlock it, it didn't UNLOCK. So for a moment I was unable to open the trunk with the lever. Then I could open it using the key only.

I searched in the internet, some people had the same problem. But there were no solution.
