The new Jeep Avenger is a significant model for the American manufacturer, as primarily Jeep are known for their off-road exploits, so this all new electric off roader has been tasked with changing perceptions of the brand as an electric car maker.
Not only is this the first all electric Jeep its also the first Jeep to use all-Stellantis running gear.
The Avenger features typical Jeep styling with chunky wheel arches and boxy lines that pay homage to Jeep’s heritage. The Avenger gets 200mm of ground clearance, which means it should be able to cope with some off-road action, however, this first edition Avenger is only front-wheel drive, but it does come with off-road drive modes & hill-descent control, with a four-wheel drive 4xe due to launch in Spring 2024.
The Avenger gets a minimalist interior with a really neat layout. The body-coloured dashboard is a tad funky and the rest of the interior is made of good quality materials. All versions of the Jeep Avenger are equipped with a 10.3-inch infotainment system, along with a digital driver’s display.
In the back, passenger space is a bit disappointing, with legroom very tight behind the seats, however, the headroom is decent.
The Jeep Avenger’s 154hp front-mounted motor gets its power from a 51kWh battery, with official tests claiming a range of 249 miles on a single charge. With mixed driving conditions we were achieving 3.5mi/kWh, which equates to a real-world range of around 180 miles.
When it comes to on the road charging, the Avenger maxes out at 100kW on compatible DC chargers, topping the car up to 80% in about 30 minutes. That’s by no means slow, but with other small electric cars beginning to offer 150kW charging, it’s already looking slightly outdated.
As you would expect, urban driving is the Jeep Avenger’s natural habitat. Visibility is brilliant all-round, and light steering makes it easy to manoeuvre. The soft suspension does well to absorb bumps, and the 360-degree camera on higher-spec models adds assistance to what is already an easy car to park.
There are currently three trims to pick between for the Jeep Avenger – Longitude, Altitude or Summit. There are a few option packs to add to the car too, though top-spec models are all-inclusive. The Jeep Avenger has a RRP range of £35,700 to £39,600 and as standard, the Avenger is covered under a three-year warranty with the battery covered under a separate eight-year warranty.
