▼Synopsis
Set in Kyoto's Uzumasa, "The Man Who Was Slashed 50,000 Times" portrays the life of a veteran actor known for his roles as a character who gets killed in period dramas. This film marked the first leading role for the renowned veteran actor Seizo Fukumoto and was released on July 12, 2014, making it a must-watch for fans of period dramas. Inspired by Chaplin's "Limelight," the movie reflects Fukumoto's life and the current state of period dramas. It features intense sword-fighting scenes by Hiroki Matsukata, thrilling confrontations between Fukumoto and Rantaro Mine, and includes captivating moments from the actual Chambara shows held at TOEI Kyoto Studio Park. Additionally, Chihiro Yamamoto, in her first appearance in a feature film, mesmerizes with her sword-fighting skills, having been the champion of the World Junior Martial Arts Championships. This film is a treat for period drama enthusiasts.
Kamiyama Kiyokazu (Fukumoto Seizō), a veteran actor belonging to the Daibeya actors' group at the Nichiei Film Studio in Uzumasa, Kyoto, has been performing as a character who gets killed in period dramas for many years. He has earned the trust of Onoe Seijuro (Matsukata Hiroki), the lead actor in the TV period drama ""Edo Sakura Fuunroku."" However, with the decline of period dramas and the end of the show ""Edo Sakura Fuunroku"" that he depended on, Kamiyama's screen time has reduced. He starts appearing in the Chambara shows at the Nichiei Uzumasa Movie Park.

Iga Satsuki (Yamamoto Chihiro), a rookie actress who starts frequenting the studio, becomes attracted to Kamiyama's dedicated attitude towards training, even in such circumstances, and requests him to train her in sword-fighting. Satsuki gets an opportunity to participate in the new innovative period drama "ODANOBU," produced by Kawashima Akihiko (Goda Masashi), who rejects traditional period dramas. She is initially selected to provide voice-over for the heroine's sword-fighting scenes but eventually gets chosen as the heroine herself due to the withdrawal of the original actress. This becomes a starting point for Satsuki's ascent to stardom. However, Kamiyama struggles to make a comeback in visual productions and faces physical decline, including numbness in his arm, leading him to decide on retirement...
