How to get more headroom by lowering the seat rails in a Miata

I’m 6’1”, and even with a foamectomy, my NB2 seats were not low enough to pass the broomstick test. I didn’t want to go to a bucket seat with a fixed mount because I like to share my car with friends and family who are not as tall as me. This seat mod has completely transformed the comfort of the car for me. If I were any taller, I’d probably need to sell the car and get an NC or ND. Now with the seat rails bolted directly to the floorpan, the seat slides back all the way to the rear ‘wall’ or parcel shelf. I’ve had my Miata for five years now and I can honesty say this is the best mod I have ever done to the car. Even if you’re not quite as tall as me, this mod might benefit you because it changes the angle of the seat bottom and provides more support under your thighs. Critical for road trips.

This video is really just an overview of the process. I may make another video showing the passenger side in more detail. Here’s a writeup I followed online: https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/for...

Additional notes not mentioned in the video:
1. I got a wire wheel and cleaned all the surface rust under the floor pan seat humps then primed and painted it black. Definitely worth doing to protect it from rusting out more. Makes me wonder if some older Miatas have more rust under those humps than mine did.
2. I forgot to include that hammer the floorpan down was necessary. I only had to hammer it near where the rail bolts in and right behind it so the slider and go back.
3. I had to cut additional plastic off the seat by the adjustment lever, more than was shown in my video at least.
