MATERIALS & MEASUREMENTS:
Steel Frame Materials:
Square Steel Tubing: 2 ½” x 2 ½” diameter, ¼” thick, 24’ long pieces.
Round Pipe: ¾” diameter, schedule 40, 20’ long pieces (for pegs to connect the hoops).
Additional Construction Materials:
Flat Panels: For creating a skid surface following the main frame.
Galvanized Steel, Hardware Cloth, Doors: For the next part of the project (not used in this video).
Bolts, Metal Drill Bits, and Screws: For assembling components if not welding.
Tools:
Welder: Hobart Handler 210MVP Flux Cored/MIG welder (for welding).
Drill: With metal drill bits.
Cutting Tools (links above):
DeWalt 20V MAX Cordless Brushless Deep Cut Band Saw.
Electric Reciprocating Saw: 2,900 Strokes per Minute, 1-1/8 Inch Stroke Length.
DEWALT FLEXVOLT 60V MAX* Angle Grinder (for cutting and sanding/smoothing).
Safety Equipment:
Gloves
Goggles
Hard Hat
Ear Protection
Measurements for Cutting:
Cross Beams: 12’ lengths cut from 24’ steel pieces.
Uprights at Ends of Skids: 18” upturns for moving at 22.5 degree angle.
Pegs: 6” lengths cut from ¾” round tube for fence railing hoops.
Vertical Extensions on Skids: To allow the mobile range coop (MRC) to pass over birds safely.
10.5” for broilers and 2’ for turkeys
Construction Layout:
Crossbeams: Added at 12” intervals to each end, clamped to square.
Center Brace: Welded or bolted, one is higher for turkeys (2’ clearance), 10.5” clearance for broilers.
End Piece Uprights: Welded 2 ½” back from the edge, followed by cross beams.
Pegs: Welded at 4’ spacings along 24’ structure, with additional pegs for door framing.
End Skids: Optionally bent; typically an 8’ section with a 22.5-degree bend or welded onto 24’ skids.
