OK, I had NOOO idea what to call this. But you gotta call it something, and "Elvin's triplet thing where he double-time's the middle triplet" seemed a bit long. So I went with "Triplet Diddle" even though that's an actual rudiment that sounds nothing like this.

At any rate, I love this phrase. You hear it all the time in his playing as well as tons of other modern jazz drummers. But the phrasing is trickier than it seems. Hopefully this will help you guys incorporate this correctly into your comping vocabulary.
