In 2016, Thomas Brennan founded The War Horse with the goal of bridging the military and civilian divide while empower veterans and military families to restore the public's trust in the Fourth Estate. Seven years later, on April 6, 2023, Brennan led the pilot of The War Horse Symposium, featuring guest speakers ranging from Jon Stewart and Bob Woodward to the leaders shaping the future of the DOD and VA.

The War Horse News hosted the conversation on April 6, 2023, at The Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, in partnership with The University of Chicago's Harris School of Public Policy.

The War Horse is an award-winning nonprofit newsroom focused on the human impact of military service. The newsroom's reporting has led to bipartisan changes in military policy and federal law, and is the recipient of three Edward R. Murrow Awards, and the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Journalism Award. The War Horse's writing workshops are the preeminent professional development program for veterans and military spouses in journalism.
