I wrote this song about a broken piano on a broken piano. I call it “Broken Piano”

Last summer, my AC unit dumped water on my 1927 Cable-Nelson upright. As a result, roughly fifteen of the century-old keys soaked up the water like a sponge causing the wood to expand, warp and split in a few places.

But I’m not one to give up easily. The clacking and bouncing you hear is because I pulled the mangled felt bushings out of the keys to see if they all fit and can move freely. They move too freely currently, which makes me hopeful that if I replace the felt, it will be very playable and back to its old self once again - leading me once again to new musical places.

This piano is lovely because it is old and imperfect, so I am going to work on it myself and bring it back to life. I’m sure it will have quite a few new imperfections to offer me.
