Gary Stewart's voice is inimitable, and his music is almost always sad, but can also be raucous, jovial and groovy enough to bring the house down, such as on his track "Your Place or Mine." Gary struggled with drinking and it's no surprise that he is most likely the "cactus" in this song, and the "rose" the one with whom "love can't be had." I hope you enjoy the cover and if you haven't listened to Gary lately, or at all, and you like honky tonk music, I recommend "Pretend I Never Happened" or maybe just checking out his greatest hits.
