"We are not in this world for ourselves and by ourselves, but we are just here to serve people and to do what’s right and make the world a better place." – Abraham B. "Abe" Jenkins, Jr.

Through hard work and dedication, Esau and Janie B. Jenkins helped improve the lives of African Americans during the Civil Rights Movement. They provided transportation for the community to help ensure children were educated and adults were employed. They opened local businesses – like a credit union – to help ensure their community had access to financial services. They helped adults learn to read, write, and exercise their civil rights. VW is proud to have collaborated with the Historic Vehicle Association and B.R. Howard and Associates in the preservation of this iconic VW Bus, to help ensure the Jenkins’ story can continue to inspire.
