How to pinpoint water leak under a driveway, by ACME Detection

Step 1
Determine if you have a leak. Find your water meter, open the box and look to see if the triangle is spinning. If the triangle is spinning while no one is using water, you have a leak.

Step 2
Locate the shut off at the house. Shut off the valve and see if the water meter is still spinning. If the water meter is still spinning the leak is between the street and the house.

Step 3
Locate the pipe. This may be a step for a professional because it probably requires a pipe locator. However a lot of times you can find some sort of plans or pictures of the house being built and you will know where it runs.

Step 4
Listening for the leak. Again this may be a step for a professional but it is possible to do simply taking a pipe approximately 4 feet long putting one end to the ground and the other end to your ear. A lot of times you'll be surprised by just what you can hear.
