January 20th, 2009 law enforcement agents in Thailand received a report of forced labor and illegal confinement involving an industrial fishing company. The agents rushed to the scene and uncovered a human trafficking ring in full operation. The fishing boat laborers were bought and sold by human traffic trafficking agents and locked up until needed. The ports and shipyards of Thailand have become hot beds of human trafficking activity where laborers are smuggled by the hundreds.

Slavery is thought to be a thing of the past, but today the buying and selling of men, women, and children is still rampant across Asia. Everyday an average of more than 5,000 human beings may be bought and sold as property around the world. These modern-day slaves are forced to work as laborers, beggars or as prostitutes, robbed of their freedom and often are abused for years.
