The ending of Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness raises so many questions about what’s next for Stephen and the MCU. Who is Charlize Theron playing and how is she connected to what comes next? Where did she and Strange go? And how does this lead into whatever is next for the MCU?

We’ve got answers. First of all, remember that Strange had to use the Darkhold in order to dream walk and stop Wanda from killing America Chavez. The darkhold kind of psychically poisons the people who use it. It turned Agatha into an energy vampire, made Sinister Strange, well–sinister–and the dark hold had this magical ability to erase wanda’s arc in wandaVision. She went form being okay with her grief, to suddenly obsessing over finding her kids i the multiverse–and this was after she used the darkhold.

So stephen uses the Darkhold ever so briefly, but it still leaves a bit of its dark power inside him–hence his new third eye. Using the Darkhold causes an incursion. This is when two universes bump up next to each other, causing one to end. This is why Charlize theron shows up in the post credits and offers to fix the incursion with him. She is playing Clea, and that is a very, very big deal.

We got to talk about what this all means for the movie, and more importantly what this is setting up in the future. Because you can’t forget about Kang the Conqueror and the impending multiversal war. And the events of the movie are setting up that event for the future.

So let’s dive into the movie’s ending, talk about who Clea is, and what does all of this mean for the future of the MCU.

So the Multiverse of Madness revealed that incursions are caused in part by dream walking. Whenever a person dreams, they experience events from their other selves from other universes.

So using the Darkhold like this ultimately leads to the collision of universes and the destruction of a reality. But it’s an important distinction that incursions are only caused by using the Dark hold. The dark hold is an unnatural power. Whereas America Chavez can travel between universes without causing incursions because her power is natural.

Marvel might retcon this, because illuminati mr fantastic kinda says that by stephen traveling the multiverse he might create an incursion. So I guess it’s kinda like creating new timelines in Loki. Look, if I’m being honest the movie does a pretty poor job in explaining how incursions are actually created. So I wouldn’t be surprised if in the future Marvel will just say that every multiversal travel has a risk of creating incursions, that will probably simplify things.

Now Marvel comic fans loved hearing the word “incursion” because they are a key part of the storyline Secret Wars–and that’s probably where the MCU is heading.

I’m going to talk about Clea, but first, I have to explain incursions and secret wars. I am so excited to see this play out on the big screen. So the incursion was a huge event in the comics, that came to an epic culmination in Time Runs out and Secret Wars.

The way incursion works in the comics is that universes begin to collide and destroy each other. This leads to a war between some universes. That happened in the story Time Runs out. But eventually the multiverse did collapse, and that was the end of everything. And that’s Secret Wars.

And this is where the MCU is heading after the events of multiverse of madness.

So in the credits scene, Clea shows up, played by Charlize Theron.
She tells Stepehn that he created an incursion, and now they're gonna fix it.

So who is Clea? In the comics she’s a very powerful sorceress, and she was also Stephen’s lover and wife at one point. Clea originates from the Dark Dimension. Yes, THAT Dark Dimension. We do see a hint of the dark dimension inside Clea’s portal. And by the way, she’s actually Dormammu’s niece. Something that I’m sure is going to change in the MCU. Because I doubt that This Dormammu has a family.
