A couple contacted us over the Facebook group "Colorado Recovery" sponsored by RhinoUSA. @treksonwheels was our team lead for this event and established communication with the RP.

They had reached out to Colorado 4x4 Rescue, however that team was unable to assist due to their agreements to only help folks on established Forest Service roads.

A tow truck from Allenspark came the day before to try and assist, but was unable to recover the vehicle and recommended a heavy rescue crew.

The couple was in this position for several days trying to coordinate a rescue.

In total, four members from the volunteer team arrived on site to assist with the rescue.

We found the vehicle wedged against a tree on the passenger side. A strap was placed over the B-Piller to help take some tension off of the tree and prevent tuna-canning the motorhome. This strap did not have significant load and was mainly used to compress the suspension.

The stuck rig weighed 10,000 pounds plus the contents inside the vehicle; so we decided to hook up two keeps, both with double line pulls using a snatch ring.

We anchored Mint to a tree and Pepper to Garrets XJ. @treksonwheels

You will see the RP walk in the danger zone several times; during these times we released the tension on the winches and had them just tight enough to keep the rope from slipping off the recovery ring.

Due to the tight space and multiple angles for the recovery, we had limited options.

Total recovery time was approximately an our from the time all rigs arrived on site. There was no additional damage from the recovery, and only minor scratches on the vehicle from the initial crash.

It appeared some wiring may have been damaged in the crash which created a short, the battery was dead before we arrived and we were unable to start the vehicle. It was left in a safe area on the road for the owner to assess the wiring problem at a later date.

All recoveries on this page are done at no charge; No donations are accepted as we are not a 501 organization. If you want to help, pay it forward by helping a person in need. Join the facebook groups in your area or the OffRoadRecoveryPortal to learn more.
