Ever since launching her eponymous brand nearly a decade ago, Anabela Chan’s aim has been to make jewellery in a more ethical and eco-conscious way.
“I wanted to create beautiful, red-carpet worthy fine jewellery using laboratory-grown gemstones, rather than mined gemstones,” she tells Clara Amfo in the latest episode of BMW and British Vogue’s The Extra Mile series. “A lot of people thought I was crazy at the time.”
Fast-forward to today, and Chan is also now working to incorporate “sky diamonds”, made from carbon dioxide taken from the atmosphere, into her designs with a new collection with SkyDiamond coming in 2023. “For me, that is where the excitement is,” the jewellery designer says. “There is no end to what is possible with science and innovation.”
