Operation Market Garden was the Allied operation to end the Second World War by Christmas 1944. The brainchild of Bernard Montgomery, it involved the combined use of airborne and armoured divisions carving a path through the Netherlands, securing several vital bridges, bypassing the formidable Siegfried Line and descending into Germany from the north. Huge cracks in the plan, however, soon caused it to crumble; a disaster ensued.

In this documentary, Dan Snow visits Arnhem and the scenes of the vicious fighting. Featuring contributions from veterans of the conflict and interviews with leading World War Two historians: Paul Beaver, James Holland and Paul Reed. This is the Battle of Arnhem, as it happened.
