International Women's Day PART FOUR
As we conclude International Women's Day 2024, celebrating the incredible journey of womanhood through a series of four videos, let's pause for a moment of reflection. From the courageous voices of the remarkable women in the Nor Cal Carpenters Union, we've been inspired, empowered, and reminded of the strength within each of us.

In the words of Eleanor Roosevelt, "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." Let these words resonate within you as you navigate your own path, breaking barriers and shattering ceilings. Remember, you are capable, resilient, and deserving of every success that comes your way.

To all the women out there, whether you're swinging hammers, breaking glass ceilings, or simply striving to make a difference, know that you are valued, respected, and essential. Keep shining your light and inspiring others with your determination and grace. Together, we rise.

Ayanna Bell - "Let's go girls" - Shania Twain

Zakiya G. Willis - I am Thankful for the union and my new career!

Shelbi Walker - Being a woman in a male dominated field has really made me feel like I am helping to empower women to look outside their comfort zone and move to more challenging areas they may not have considered before. I feel that with commitment and dedication to learn, any woman can achieve standing in a male dominated workplace. I feel that women have the skills and knowledge, and with more women moving into construction it will show that women can work hard and excel in this field.

Nancy Mateu – “Lead with integrity”

Silvana Kurtic - “I love that I chose to be a carpenter. It's very hands on and there's so many useful things you learn and so many opportunities to grow in the trade and with a company itself. It's had a big impact on my life. If I didn't choose to do this, I would be working at a Walmart for minimum wage making it harder for me to work for what I want in my future. I was able to buy a car at the age of 19 with no help from anyone and I'm sure in a few years could buy a house. So thankful for the opportunity I received, and I would recommend it to anyone who love to work with their hands”

Shirell Defils - There are a few things I've learned on my 30yr journey as a Union Carpenter. The riches will always be there- you just have to learn how to play the game! In that lesson there will be sacrifices of all kinds. As a women, most of us won't be working consistently nor will we be working for the same employer (that is the nature of the business), so you learn how to play the game! The wisdom you get is you don't let the game play you! Because you're in the game now, learn the rules, participate, and make your voice and opinions count! Get all you can out of it- then get out with your slice of the pie and health!

Sara Misgna - My name is Sara Misgna. I am a 3rd period apprentice in the Carpenter Union, Local 713. I am proud of myself for finding this opportunity which will enhance both my families life and my life; by providing economic stability, retirement, healthcare, and personal development challenges. ”Successful people are not gifted; they just work hard, then succeed on purpose”.

Earlene Drapeau - Here's to all the proud union women in construction on women's international day, may we be always learning & may we b surrounded by positive support, encouragement & love so we can continue to grow ourselves.
