History and biographies:

Wilbur and Orville Wright were American inventors and aviation pioneers. The Wright brothers made the first powered, sustained, and controlled airplane flight in 1903; two years later, they built and flew the first fully functional airplane, surpassing their own record.
On April 16, 1867, Wilbur Wright was born close to Millville, Indiana. In a family of five kids, he was the middle child.
In the Church of the United Brethren in Christ, his father Milton Wright served as a bishop. Susan Catherine Koerner was his mother.
Wilbur Wright's younger brother Orville, who was born in 1871, was a playmate when they were kids.

Glenn Hammond Curtiss, who founded the American aircraft industry, was an American aviation and motorcycle pioneer who lived from May 21, 1878, to July 23, 1930. Before switching to motorbikes, he started out in the world of bicycle racing and construction. He started creating airship engines as early as
1904. In order to build flying machines, Alexander Graham Bell established the Aerial Experiment Association in Beinn Bhreagh, Nova Scotia, in 1908. Curtiss joined this groundbreaking research organization in 1908.

Curtiss won a race at the world's first international air meet in France and made the first long-distance flight in the U.S. His contributions in designing and building aircraft led to the formation of the Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor Company, now part of Curtiss-Wright Corporation. His company built aircraft for the U.S. Army and Navy, and, during the years leading up to World War I, his experiments with seaplanes led to advances in naval aviation. Curtiss civil and military aircraft were predominant in the interwar and World War II.
