In this sermon from Bishop T.D. Jakes, “Favor Ain’t Fair,” continue following the story of Ruth and discover more truth about God’s gifts and grace.

In the first half of TD Jakes’ sermon, he spoke about how Ruth’s decision to stay with her mother-in-law, Naomi, led her from poverty into blessing. Now, Bishop Jakes continues this message of purpose being intertwined with provision.

He notes that God’s gifts are intentional. They are given with purpose. If you know who you are and what you’re meant to do, then God will provide. He will not lead you into your destiny and leave you empty-handed.

T.D. Jakes then touches on the conflict between spiritual complacency and expectation. He says that God desires for us to go from “greater to greater;” the danger is in aiming low, becoming content with just getting by. You can be thankful for what you have and still be complacent. We are meant to move forward, continually, with hope and expectation.

T.D. Jakes offers biblical illustrations for this concept, not only in Ruth, but the children of Israel. As God led His people through the wilderness, He provided for them, but His goal wasn’t just survival. He had something bigger and better waiting for them on the other side of the Jordan.

Have you become content with your lot in life? Have you set your sights too low? Have you experienced shut doors and disappointment? Are you afraid to hope? It’s time to discover who you are and what you are meant to do. It’s time to aim high.
