Independent rail planning consultant – and South Northamptonshire resident – William Barter speaks from Milton Keynes Central railway station about why HS2 is important for the future of the town.
HS2 will add vital capacity to our overcrowded rail network by placing long distance services on their own pair of tracks. This will create space for more local, commuter and freight services on the existing West Coast Main Line, which serves Milton Keynes Central, Bletchley and Wolverton.
For example, technical modelling also shows that HS2 could enable five more trains in the morning peak hour from Milton Keynes to London Euston compared to the May 2019 timetable, two of which would be ‘fast’ services.
