Following an epic 7-game Western Conference Finals, the 2002-03 season offered more Lakers-Kings drama. For LA, this was their first visit to California’s state capitol since game 7’s overtime victory. The two teams had met just a month prior, with Sacramento prevailing in a Christmas Day showdown at Staples. Shaquille entered Arco on January 31st averaging 26.3p, 10.8r, 3.2a and 2.1b through 31 games. The Lakers’ record stood at only 20-23, quite disappointing for the 3-time defending champions. They’d turned it around of late, going 9-4 in their previous 13 after starting 11-19.
