The winds on Oahu are always strong but they normally blow from the east, northeast. These are known as trade winds and the golf courses are designed to be played with these winds in mind. Every now and then the winds come in from the west and these are known as Kona winds. The course plays exceptionally tough in Kona winds, especially the back nine. Today the winds were in the 25 mph range. Normally this makes for a playing course conditions adjustment of at least a +2 for handicap rating.
