This year’s hypothetical case, Charles Artiss v. Westlake Pharmaceuticals, Inc., asked the teams to address one of the foremost hurdles in a lawsuit: personal jurisdiction.

This year's presiding judges were Elena Kagan ’86, associate justice of the United States Supreme Court; Kimberly S. Budd ’91, chief justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court; and Consuelo Maria Callahan, United States Circuit Judge for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

The Ames Moot Court Competition is one of the most prestigious competitions for appellate brief writing and advocacy in the country. The students participating in the Final Round started the competition in fall of their 2L year. Two teams progressed to the Final Round through their strong research abilities and excellent written and oral advocacy.
