Littoral Combat Ship (LCS): The Little Warship That Can Smash Any Navy
The littoral combat ship (LCS) is a new family of surface warships that are smaller than the US Navy's Oliver Harzard-Perry class frigates and around the same size as corvettes used by other countries worldwide. The LCS is a networked surface warship designed for a specific use in the 21st century. The LCS was designed as a shallow concept ship capable of operating in coastal waters, even as peer enemies like China have attempted to improve their capabilities to extend beyond a "green water navy" to a real "blue sea navy." Warships are capable of fending off growing "asymmetrical" threats like submarines, coastal mines, and tiny yet swift armed craft.
