David Cameron served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from 2010 to 2016. He was the UK’s youngest Prime Minister since Lord Liverpool in 1812. Cameron came to power at a moment of economic crisis and with an unprecedented fiscal challenge. Under his leadership, Britain became the fastest-growing major advanced economy in the world. His vision has always been of a country where everyone–whatever their background–can succeed, and where every part of the country is brought together. David Cameron continues to focus on issues he advanced while in office: supporting life chances for young people; championing Britain’s cutting edge medical research; and promoting international development. He is Chairman of Patrons at National Citizen Service, the UK’s flagship youth development programme; President of Alzheimer’s Research UK; and he is chairing the LSE-Oxford Commission on State Fragility, Growth and Development, under the auspices of the International Growth Centre. He also sits on the Global Board of Advisors at the Council on Foreign Relations. Mr. Cameron was a speaker at the 2018 Abu Dhabi Ideas Weekend, where he delivered the closing talk of Moonshot 1: “Polarisation: Bridging the gaps”.

In March 2018, the Abu Dhabi Ideas Weekend welcomed some of the brightest and most interesting minds from the UAE and around the world to discuss four of the most important moonshot challenges facing our planet. The event was inspired by the world-famous Aspen Ideas Festival that has been taking place in Colorado since 2005, as a place for scientists, artists, politicians, business leaders, historians and educators to discuss some of the most fascinating ideas of our time. The 2018 Abu Dhabi Ideas Weekend topics included: “Polarisation: Bridging the gaps”, “Cancer: An end in sight?”, “Artificial Intelligence: Our super-intelligent friend?” and “The Modern Silk Road: A new era of globalisation”.
