In 2010, University of Virginia student Yeardley Love was found dead in her apartment following a violent encounter with her ex-boyfriend, George Huguely V, a fellow UVA student and lacrosse player. The two had a troubled relationship marked by conflict and instability. On the night of the incident, Huguely entered her apartment and, after a confrontation, caused fatal injuries. He later admitted to the altercation but denied intending harm. In 2012, he was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 23 years in prison. The case received national attention and led to the creation of the One Love Foundation, which promotes awareness about relationship violence.
