Drainage pipes require a vent pipe which runs outdoors in order for the fluids to flow properly. But what do you do if your sink is in an island or peninsula and you cannot run the vent out the roof?

This is where the auto vent becomes useful. An autovent is a device that allows air into the pipes when there is a negative pressure, but it also keeps sewer gasses from coming out of the pipes when there is a positive pressure. Studor vent is the same thing as an autovent. Studor is one of the manufacturers of autovent devices.

An autovent can be installed in a cabinet below the counter top. It should be installed as high as possible inside the cabinet.
