Flat-buyers are gullible and easy to fool because of their psychological vulnerability to the lies of builders' sales teams. Flat-buyers are chronically unable to spot the lies and false assurances told to them by sales office staff. This is often because the flat-buyers suffer from the "Imposter Syndrome" i.e. they feel they themselves are fakes, unworthy of being customers. Flat-buyers feel that they are imposters, and they fear that they will be "found out", and this would lead to a shameful expulsion from the sales office. This fear of "being found out" and dishonoured prevents them from applying their critical faculties to the various false claims of the sales guys. Sometimes, flat-buyers have a sense of being obligated to the sales staff because the sales guys are somehow "obliging" them by letting them swipe a smaller-than-expected token.
