These step-by-step instructions detail how to remove and replace the cabin air filter your 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 Toyota Prius. The replacement procedures will be similar for select Toyota Prius models between 2003 and 2009. Improve airflow and A/C performance with a new cabin air filter, which removes contaminants from the outside air before they enter your Prius’ cabin. Your 2003 to 2009 Toyota Prius’ owner’s manual includes the recommended replacement interval, but if your cabin air filter is dirty or clogged, or if you drive in heavily-polluted or dusty environments, you can also change the cabin air filter more regularly for improved cabin airflow, air quality, and overall comfort.

Open your front passenger side door… and empty your glove box.
Press in on the sides of the glove box to release the tabs and lower it partially.
Slip the dampener off the post on the passenger side of the box.
Now you should be able to disengage the hinges… and lift the whole thing out of the way completely.
Your cabin air filter is in the foot well… in a tray with clips on either side of the cover.
Press in on the clips… and slide the tray out.
Make sure there’s no dust or debris inside the housing.
Remove the old filter from the tray.
Install your new cabin air filter in the same orientation… making sure the edges of the filter slip under the tabs of the tray.
Slide the tray back into the housing until it clips shut.
Lift the glove box into place… and reengage the hinges at the back of the assembly.
Raise it enough to reattach the dampener… and press in on both sides of the glove box to slip it up past the tabs.
Replace anything you took out of your glove box… and close it.
